Mr. Juhnke is a member of McCormick Barstow’s San Luis Obispo office.  After graduating from UCLA Law School, Mr. Juhnke practiced in Los Angeles and was associated with Manatt, Phelps, Rothenberg & Tunney. He moved to San Luis Obispo in 1986 and joined the law firm of Sinsheimer, Schiebelhut & Baggett, where he became a partner in 1989 and became managing partner of successor law firm Sinsheimer, Juhnke, McIvor & Stroh in 2001.  Mr. Juhnke joined McCormick Barstow in 2019 and assists clients in business and real estate litigation and transactions, and counsels and represents employers concerning employee issues and disputes.  For Mr. Juhnke’s full resume, please click here.

What made you want to be a lawyer? I am a people person and have always liked to argue.  When I was growing up my mother used to tell me that if I continued to argue with her then I was going to grow up to be a lawyer.  In college I was fascinated by political science and history, and the options for college graduates with a political science degree were go to law school or get a post-graduate degree in political science.  Becoming a lawyer seemed like the more practical alternative.

What is the most valuable thing a lawyer can do for their clients?  Ask them what they would like to accomplish.  And then listen.  

What the best thing about working in San Luis Obispo?  The community.  It is wonderful to live in a place where people know and care about each other, and even strangers greet each other on the street with a smile.  The opportunities for outdoor recreation of various types are simply amazing, and it is a great place to raise a family.  The people are caring, passionate and involved, and there are a lot of great wineries.

Where is the most exotic location you have travelled to?  Hiking over the 15,000 foot Salkantay pass on the way to Machu Pichu.  And hiking and snorkeling in the Galapagos Islands. 

What is your favorite way to spend a Saturday?  Going on a hike with my family, and then going wine tasting and out to dinner.
