Attorney Spotlight – Neil Callahan
This month, we are getting to know Neil Callahan – Of Counsel at McCormick Barstow’s Modesto office. Read on to learn more about Mr. Callahan:
What is your practice area emphasis? Civil Litigation – specifically defending public entities.
What is your favorite thing about McCormick Barstow? My favorite thing about McCormick Barstow is the Firm’s well-earned reputation for legal ability and ethical standards.
What is the most valuable thing a lawyer can do for their clients? Help the client determine where they want to be at the end of the case and help them to get there.
What do you enjoy most about the practice of law? What I enjoy most professionally is that my practice – defending persons who work in the public sector (teachers, police officers, administrators and public works personnel etc.) – allows me to defend good people who are trying to do the right thing.
Where is the most exotic location you have traveled to? Although not exactly “exotic” one place I have enjoyed traveling to is Indianapolis, Indiana. It is full of statues, monuments, parks and memorials and is quite similar to Washington D.C. as the two cities were actually designed by the same person.
What advice would you give to a new lawyer? It is important to be yourself in front of a jury and to always be prepared. Trying to be someone you are not and/or being ill-prepared is a recipe for disaster.
