Attorney Spotlight – Renee Maxfield
What is your practice area emphasis? Insurance defense and insurance coverage.
What made you want to be a lawyer? I grew up interested in criminal justice and gravitated towards mysteries and legal shows and stories. In college, I decided to major in criminal justice and selected the pre-law program as reading/writing/speaking was my strong suit as opposed to law enforcement (I’d be the least threatening police officer ever). I’ve also always enjoyed learning and in the legal field, I learn something new every day and have an opportunity to meet new people that I would normally never have an opportunity to meet otherwise.
If you weren’t a lawyer, what would you be? Travel agent or interior decorator.
What is your favorite thing about McCormick Barstow? The working environment is by far my favorite thing about McCormick Barstow. I have wonderful co-workers who are always in a positive mood when you first walk in the door.
What advice would you give to a law student or new attorney? Keep yourself open to practicing in different areas of law and gain as much experience as you can to see what you enjoy the most. Also, be assertive in asking to assist or work on cases with partners.
What is your favorite way to spend a Saturday? Sleeping in, finding a new brunch/lunch spot, and then having a movie or game night with friends.
