After spending a year as a law clerk with the California Court of Appeals, 5th District, Mr. Hansen joined McCormick Barstow in 1986.  Mr. Hansen is a partner in the Insurance Coverage and Bad Faith Litigation Practice Group, and has served as its Chair.

Mr. Hansen has developed expertise in the investigation, analysis and litigation of  first and third party insurance coverage and fraudulent claims, including arson, bodily injury, property loss, fraudulent ring activity, motor vehicle claims, catastrophe claims, appraisal, subsidence and land failure coverage disputes, construction defect coverage, life insurance, uninsured and underinsured motorist claims and environmental contamination claims. He has also handled many types of litigation defense, including general negligence, construction defect, products liability, premises liability and other general litigation.

Mr. Hansen is admitted to practice before all California State Courts and U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Central, and Northern Districts of California.

Mr. Hansen is a member of the State Bar of California and the Fresno County Bar Association.  In addition, he is a member of the Association of Defense Counsel, Defense Research Institute, Northern California Fraud Investigators Association, Federal Bar Association, Property Claims Association of the Pacific, and California Conference of Arson Investigators.  He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Central Valley Chapter of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society.

Community Involvement

Mr. Hansen is a coach for the Clovis North High School Mock Trial team.  He has also served on the Board of Directors of the San Joaquin College of Law Alumni Association and HandsOn Central California.

Publications and Lectures

Mr. Hansen has lectured before various property insurance and industry organizations, and has co-authored papers published by the Property Insurance Law Committee of the ABA and the Property Loss Research Bureau. In addition, Mr. Hansen served as regional editor of the First Supplement to “Bad Faith and Punitive Damages: Annotations to First Party Insurance Cases, Statutes, and Regulations” published by the Property Insurance Law Committee of the ABA in 1989 and co-authored an update.
